🥋 Hong Kong Asian Open Judo Championships 2017

The Asian Open Judo Championships 2017 was held at the Tin Shui Wai Sports Center in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The tournament with 171 participating judokas from 22 countries was sanctioned by the Judo Union of Asia and International Judo Federation.

The two-day competition held from the 9th to 10th of December was participated by our Southeast Asian judokas from Indonesia, the  Philippines and Singapore. 

Bringing glory to the region was Filipino-Japanese judoka Kiyomi Watanabe who won bronze medal after overpowering Maeve Coughlan of Australia in the battle-for-bronze match in the women’s -63kg division. 

Watanabe outclassed Cheung Wing Laam of Hong Kong in the second round after gaining a bye in the first round but lost to Futuba Suzuki of Japan in the semifinals. 

Another Filipino judoka Mariya Takahashi won silver medal in the women's -70kg event after losing to Japan's Yukina Kobayashi in the finals. 
The Philippines brought home 1 silver and 1 bronze medals to emerge victorious among Southeast Asian participating nations. 
Indonesia and Singapore failed to medal in this event but showed promising talents and skills for the sport of judo.

Vietnam and Thailand did not participate in this competition.
