Wrestling is one of the sports that our Southeast Asian athletes can hardly penetrate. In Asian level, most competitive wrestlers always came from the west and central Asia. Their dominant physique and the focus in wrestling are evidence of their podium finishes.
East Asian countries like Japan and Mongolia are also teams to beat because of their good concentration and training in sport of wrestling. This is why Southeast Asia has low number of competitors during international tournaments. Thailand and Vietnam are the two countries that always sends athletes and do try to podium every tournament. This is big deal for Southeast Asia as wrestling is an Olympic sport and a regular sport in Asian Games. This means that Southeast Asian federations has to do something in order to catch up with other Asian countries or at least to have the same level with them.Below are the best results from Thai and Vietnamese wrestlers. Thi My Trang Nguyen of Vietnam is the only medalists from Southeast Asia. She won bronze in the women's 52kg event. The Cadet Asian Championships was held at the Bangkok Youth Center of Thailand.
