8th Francophone Games 2017


Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam participated at the Francophone Games 2017 held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from July 21–30. This is the 8th edition of Francophone Games.

Francophone Games is a combination of artistic and sporting events  mostly participated by French speaking countries.
Our Southeast Asian athletes produced two bronze medals in this edition.
Vietnam won bronze medal in the mixed doubles event courtesy of Bui The Nghia and Pham Thi Thu Huong. They were defeated by France's Joe Seyfried and Oceane Guisnel in the semifinals (11-8, 11-9, 12-10).

But before that match, they successfully defeated Madagascar and Canada in the 1st and 2nd rounds while win over the team from Lebanon in quarterfinals.   

Cambodia also surprised us by collecting bronze in the women's 53kg event in wrestling courtesy of Ralsmay Chey Chan. She was defeated in the semi-finals by Elisa Emma Patricia Rasoanantenaina of Madagascar.

Cambodia's Wath Sun Panhga won over Komi Joseph H. Viagbo of Togo in the elimination round but bowed out to Youssouf Diallo of Mali.
