The 17th World Aquatics Championships 2017 or FINA World Championships was held in Budapest, Hungary from July 14 to July 30.
Our Southeast Asian athletes were among the 182 countries that competed at the Danube Arena, Alfréd Hajós National Swimming Stadium and Lake Balaton as venues of the 17th edition.
All Southeast Asian nations except for Myanmar were present at the competitions. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam competed only in swimming events. The Philippines also competed in swimming events but this time they also competed in synchronized swimming. As for Malaysia, they only competed in diving and synchronized swimming. While Singapore competed in diving, swimming and synchronized swimming.
At the end of competition, Malaysia took a historic gold in diving courtesy of Cheong Jun Hoong in the women's 10m platform. She also bagged a bronze medal in the women's 10m synchronized platform with fellow Pandelela Rinong.
Singapore also bagged a bronze medal in the men's 100m butterfly courtesy of 2016 Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling.
