The Terengganu-born Azizulhasni Awang will see action in his 5th appearance in the Summer Olympics. Awang is one of the most decorated cyclist who won gold medal in 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics (Men's Keirin) and silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (Keirin).
The 36-year old Awang started competing in the summer Olympiad in 2008. Aside from the Olympics, his other achievements are silver medal at the 2009 World Championships (Sprint) and the silver medal at the 2010 World Championships (Keirin).
Awang is one of the favorites to win Malaysia's first Olympic gold medal following his great achievements in track cycling. He will compete in Men's Sprint and in Men's Keirin events.
Track cycling competition will start on August 5. The men's sprint competition is scheduled from August 7 to 9 while Men's Keirin is from August 10 to 11.
