8 Malaysian athletes and officials tested Positive for COVID-19

A total of eight individuals involving athletes and coaches were confirmed positive for Covid-19 after undergoing a swab test at their respective training centers coordinated by the National Sports Council (Majlis Sukan Negara) and the National Sports Institute (Institut Sukan Negara) after returning from year-end leave.

MSN director-general Datuk Shapawi Ismail said seven athletes and an officer were believed to have contracted infections while on holiday in their respective villages or homes.

These individuals came from athletics (two), wheelchair tennis (two), wheelchair basketball (two), hearing impaired bowling tenpin (one), and bocce sports escort officer (one).

Only 1 percent or eight individuals out of 632 athletes and officers who have undergone swab testing were found to be positive. And those who are found positive are isolated and are waiting for further action from the Ministry of Health of Malaysia.
