🥊 Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships 2017

The Women’s Youth World Championships 2017 was held at the Nabin Chandra Indoor Stadium – Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, India.

With 186 boxers from 38 countries, Southeast Asia sent its best boxer to the tournament. Philippines with two boxers, Thailand with 4 and Vietnam with a lone boxer.

Philippines' bet Florence May Oliveros in the women’s light weight category (60 kgs) was defeated by  Russian Tatiana Konstantinova in the first round. It was a unanimous decision in favor of the Russian boxer, 5-0. 

The other Filipina boxer Gena Casin earned an opening-round bye to automatically advance to the second round of lightweight class (45-48kg) but her initial fight also resulted to a defeat. Casin was beaten by Russia's Karina Tuvakova also in unanimous decision by the judges.

Thailand's Kittiya Nampai defeated England's Chloe Watson at the flyweight (51kg) in the preliminary round but was halted to the quarterfinals by Italian Giovanna Marchese. The score was unanimous favoring the Italian boxer.
Another Thai fighter Preedakamon Tintabthai suffered defeat from Russian boxer Valeriia Rodionova unanimously, 0-5 score cards in the women's featherweight class (57kg).
While Phonnapa Lapan (Thailand) also debuted her fight with a defeat against England's Ivy-Jane Smith in the women's bantam (54kg) event.
The only Thai fighter who entered the quarter finals was Thanchanok Saksri who faced Poland's Patrycja Borys in the lightwelter weight class (64kg). The match ended with Saksri walking successfully to the semi finals. 
For her semi final match, she faces local bet Ankushita Boro of India.
In the semi finals, the local boxer prevailed leaving the Thai boxer for the bronze medal.

Vietnam's Do Hong Ngoc defeated Turkey's Havanur En at the featherweight (57kg) in the preliminaries. She enters the quarterfinals facing Roma Linda Martinez of USA.
In the quarter finals, Ngoc superbly defeated the American boxer and enters the semi finals.To enter the gold match, she needs to put down Cailling Hu of China in the semi finals.
In the semi final round, Ngoc succesfully defeated Hu of China to advance in the gold medal match. Unfortunately, Ngoc only settled for second place to claim silver medal after losing to India's Shashi Chopra, 1-4 cards.
This tournament also serves as qualifying event for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina next year.
Unfortunately, only the top ranked athlete in each of the four (4) YOG 2018 weight categories will qualify for the YOG at the AIBA Women’s Youth World Championships 2017.
